Pulse generators for pyrotechnic devices
ST builds precision pulse generators designed for automotive airbag and aerospace manufacturing test. These pulse generators are intended to excite igniters or other pyrotechnic devices under programmable electrical conditions. Two versions are available: the dual-channel PG2 and the four-channel PG-4. PGs are equipped with a safety comprehensive system typically required for use in pyrotechnic environments such as door sensor, motion sensor, emergency stop, etc. The safety features are built into the firing cycle load and include resistance measurement, load fault test, ground fault test, key switch and a 4-wire (Kelvin-sensing) output cable. The safety system also connects the igniter in short when the system is not running a test to assure that the igniter can not be fired due to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Pulses amplitude and duration may be programmed as well as the time delay between channels with virtually no undesired retard accumulation as more channels are added. Each channel is isolated and independently programmable for current or voltage output up to 10A. It automatically sets either current or voltage output based on whether the command is current or voltage. PGs signals have electrical fidelity because of the isolation, therefore are less susceptible to accidental fire due to cross talk. Additionally PGs include a built in milliohmmeter which has the advantage of using AC excitation instead of DC excitation that may change the igniter electro-chemically. The PGs also feature diagnostic and calibration functions built in and a USB port for programmable control, which allows operator control using a terminal emulator or automated testing. |
